Chinese Bridge Speech Contest
The Chinese Bridge Speech Contest and Scholarship program offers high school and undergraduate students the opportunity to travel to China.
Since 2006, OUCI has hosted the Oklahoma Regional Chinese Bridge Speech Contest in the spring of every year. Since its inception hundreds of students have competed in the contest.
In 2012, from November 12th through November 28th, commissioned by the Consulate General of P.R, China in Houston, the Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma recommended Alice Nan to take on the task of training and preparing the U.S Team 2 for the Fifth Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign Secondary School Students in Kunming, China. U.S Team 2 won lst place and each individual team member won 2nd place!
In 2013 one high school student and one college student won the opportunity to travel to China to compete in the international contest.
2017 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition
For Secondary School and College Students in Oklahoma

Current Chinese learners in local secondary schools, colleges or universities
Competition content includes the following two parts. Total score is 10.
1. Speech in Chinese: A 2-minute speech in Chinese with the theme of “China and Me”, “Chinese and Me”, “My Chinese Dream”, or any other theme related to China.
(6 points in total, with 3 points for “clear and articulating, standard pronunciation and intonation” and 3 points for “accuracy, fluency and naturalness”.)
2. Talent Show: A 3-minute talent show in one of the following forms:
Chinese folk musical instruments, calligraphy, Chinese paintings, martial arts, Chinese operas, acrobatics, Chinese traditional sports, Chinese songs, dance, paper-cutting, and etc.
(4 points in total with 2 points for “originality, skillfulness, and impressiveness”, and 2 points for “outstanding features of Chinese culture, excellent overall effects, artful and appealing”)
Contestants are grouped into Secondary School Student Level and College Student Level. Every contestant competes at his/her own group and level. Awards in each level include: one First Prize, two Second Prizes, and three Third Prizes. Contestants without winning any above prize will be awarded with Honorable Mention. All prizes’ winners will be rewarded with a trophy and certificate. First prize winners of each group will automatically be qualified to attend the next round competition: 2017 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in Southern USA, which will be held on April 23rdat the University of Texas at Dallas.
Anyone who is interested in attending the competition please register with your Chinese instructor. Registration deadline is Feb 27. Chinese instructors, please complete the attached Recommendation Form and send it to the Confucius Institute at OU by email before Feb 27, 2017.
